'30s CPF Calabash Reveal

Discussion in 'Maintenance & Restoration' started by nowsharing, Feb 15, 2012.

I started a thread asking for help sourcing a meer bowl for an old C.P.F. calabash, and dhintonica directed me to a Turkish Ebayer who makes them. The insert arrived yesterday, so I sanded it to fit and then polished up the pipe. I think it came out nicely.

To fit the insert, I sanded down the cork a bit in the pipe itself and then went at the bottom of the insert itself with 200 grit sandpaper until it fit snugly--about an hour or two.

Looks great -- well done!! What was the final cost, if you don't mind me asking?

The insert was $44 ($35 + $9 shipping). The calabash came in a box of pipes that I bought, so it wasn't much at all. Thanks again for your help tracking down the insert!

My pleasure!! That's a pretty good price to recover a beauty like that! Let me know how you like smoking it!

Beautiful! I've entertained doing that with mine, but I've been reluctant to horse with an antique. Your project has got me thinking again...

You need to smoke it, now!

I just picked up another Calabash on Ebay to restore. This one came with the meer bowl, but is in much dirtier condition overall. Before I smoke the CPF, I'm going to clean up the new one. Then if I decide to put the CPF on Ebay, it will still be like-new.

That came out amazing! If it goes up on eBay, I'll be one of the bidders.

Don't have (nor have ever had) a Calabash... but I like that one.

The second one looks like a Pioneer. It will surely be a good smoker as well, but I like the bend and look of the first one a little better, myself. It would be hard for me not to keep that one.

Very nice pipe. I've been looking for one but by the time I get there it's sold. Oh well no big deal. I just like the "Sherlock Holmes" appearence of them and looks like a long smoker if the bowl is really filled up!!

That is a great looking pipe! Looks like you got a great deal too! :th1:
