I've been working on a large sampler of Virgina, English, Virginia Perique, and Burley blends for a couple weeks now. The sampler also included about 5 Atladis aromatics, mostly Tobacco Galleria. I have tried them all. Vanilla, Wild Cherry, Nightcap, Blue Note, theres a couple others in there I don't recall. The blue note is the only one I plan on finishing. I can't bash the nightcap because I did enjoy it but traded it to try some other aromatic blends. But really I don't think these blends are very palatable. I know they are on the low end of the scale price wise so I am willing to pay a little more to try something that you guys think highly of. What is a nice aromatic, one that is not too doused in casing but rich and flavorful? Just looking for some ideas here. Has anyone tried anything from EA Carey? Apple Pie got good reviews on tobaccoreviews.com and they have some tinned tobacco I am interested in trying. So far I seem to like the English blends the most, Sutliff Sunrise, Frog Morton, EMP, etc. I like the Patton Virginia blends alot as well. The quadruple Virginia and Gold Nugget really trip my trigger. Maybe I should just bag aromatics but I feel I may be missing out on something good.
I don't know if I would just bag the aros. There are so many good tobaccos out there, all different blends and it would be a shame to miss one you might like. I was staying away from Sutliff for some unknown reason, I think I heard bad things about them. Then one day in a B&M I had a little cash on me. There was this stuff called Kentucky Planter for 12 bucks. I decided what the heck... picked it up. I liked this stuff!! Great room note with a nice burley taste. I was amazed. .. so, don't give up on the aros
High quality, highly received and reviewed aromatics are actually kinda rare. I think for tinned fare, Solani Sweet Mystery X and Dan's(not Tobacco Galleria) Blue Note may top the list.(It's too early...I'm guessing). Bulk options abound...P&W has several, as does 4noggins, etc. etc. Boswell's is one that is known for their aromatics, and maybe should be entertained. Personally, I suspect if VA's are already 'trigger trippers' for you, than most aro's will be 'meh', but eh, what do I know? Good luck on your search...it's a fun ride.
I am not an "old fart" I am a noob so I am not as qualified to answer but I like areos, I really love Petersons "Nutty Cut" best I have tried yet. I would also like to try other Peterson areos, Sunset Breeze always seems to be popular, maybe those two might be of interest to you. Anyway I really love the Nutty Cut, it is my favorite tobacco I have tried so far.
Peterson's Deluxe Mixture was the one I started with and love it to this day. For something a little different...try Stanwell Melange.
What she said . Also , SWR Aromatic , MacBaren Vanilla Cream , Vanilla Flake and Honey and Choc . Sutliff St. George and South Seas . Altadis makes 200 blends , I guess , and some are really really good . PS makes a good number of Aro blends as well . There's so much out there .... the skys the limit when it comes to Aros for sure . SG Firedance is insainly great when you get it at the right dry time [ which is a bear ] ..... it's sublime .
I love MacBaren Vanilla Cream Flake, and Peterson's University Flake. These are both lightly flavored Aro's that still taste like tobacco.
I've been enjoying some aro offerings myself. It's like traveling to the dark side or a 'guilty pleasure'. What I've been smoking is: CAO Moontrace, Dan Black Velvet, Dan Devil's Holiday, McClelland Holiday Spirit, and MacBaren Club Blend Roll Cake (don't know if you would classify that as an aro, but it is definitely topped). Just pick and choose. If you don't like it, offer it for trade on the trading post. It's bound to be someone's favorite and you'll get something different in return.
+1 ...Oh yeah ... McC Holiday Spirit ! Had that the other day for the first time .. excellent ! Also , McC #200 Fragrant Matured Cake and others they produce
The keys to a good aromatic are quality leaf and natural flavourings. I've enjoyed those from McClelland, McBaren, Holger Danske, Wilke and Boswell to name a few. Then there are the English treatments such as Grousemoor and St. Bruno.
If our beloved gubment knew how good Pete's Deluxe tasted they would either ban it or tax it out of existance. I'm hard pressed to decide which aro I love the most: Pete's Deluxe, Stanwell's Melange or Solani's Sweet Mystery.
I recommend MacBarens Vanilla Flake & loose cut, Erinmore Flake, and of course Dans Blue Note and Vanilla Honeydew.

Thank you for all of the recommendations but I have given up on aros for now. I received a few samples in the mail today in a trade with a member here and I just don't appreciate the flavor as much as a straight tobacco flavor. I may in the future look into something like macbarren vanilla cream but for now the cased aromatics are a no go
