I'm a big fan of Chris's work. I like that he was schooled in traditional English shapes and has a flair for contemporary treatments as well. I contacted him about a month ago to see if he would build me a blasted Prince pipe as it has become one of my favorite shapes. I asked if he wouldn't mind taking some photos along the way so I could share them with all of you.
I can't wait to take the plunge and have a pipe custom built. I've been eyeing the work over at Kesling Briar Pipes but I have no idea where I'd start. The guy seems to have a flair for off the wall stuff, but I've seen some stuff in his gallery that is more traditional. Not sure what I'd have made. Check some of this stuff out, it's crazy! http://www.keslingbriarpipes.com/pipe-gallery/
That's too bad. Was it a large pipe or exotic materials??? I found him to be quite agreeable however, I don't think my pipe is very complex
My "Modern/Classic" Prince pipe is on its way and I can't wait to smoke it. Chris sent me these pics before he shipped it. The only drawback in the photos is you can't see the shiny waxi-ness on the briar.
I figure the folks here enjoy the pipe making process. I know I do. It fascinates me how a craftsman can turn a root into a work of art.
Man, looking at the grain pre-blast, I would have had a hard time deciding if I wanted it smooth or blasted. Either way it looks awesome!
