I am a woman who likes black, I have planned on buying the Peterson Killarney Ebony 68 for Jul/christmas this year for myself, I think its one of the most lovely pipes I have ever seen, although it is quite a expensive pipe. So before I buy it I still want to look around at other options, I was hoping you guys could suggest other Ebony pipes for a good price. I would also like to add that I like a smooth flow between the pipe and stem like in the 68.
Of course the Petes are the first to come to mind... I believe they make Ebony Churchwardens also. Savinelli had one a few years back with three jewels vertically mounted on the front of the bowl. Black pipes are out there, you just gotta look.
I'm not sure who else would offer an Ebony finish in a similar price range, I was able to find one Vauen Opus in ebony at smokingpipes for about the same price, but it was a different shape. I have heard good things about Vauen, but I have never owned one myself. I also have an old Medico Tuxedo that is very dark, almost black, and is a good smoker, Medico's in general are not terribly expensive, but that type of pipe you might have to watch for on ebay. On the other hand, I do have a few Petersons, and I have been satisfied with all of them, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one of their pipes, and I like the 68 shape. Good luck, and enjoy whatever you decide on!

Pete Killarneys as the rest of Pete's Racing Green and Irish Sea stains/finishes have a real nasty habit of bubbling up or blistering. Looks crappy....especially on a black pipe. Just thout I'd mention a potential drawback of Pete Killarneys. I have a red Killarney and a red 2010 Christmas 68 and they're both blistered on the rim. I don't mind, I smoke em! Ed Puff
Yes, I have been looking quite a bit myself, that is how I found the Peterson 68. I am keeping my eye out, I thought I would just check here is some of you knew of one or two really sharp black pipes that smoke well.
Oh thank you so much for your input, I had no idea, makes one re-think things. If I am are paying so much for a nice pipe I'd sure like it to stay that way.
I just got an ebony 150 bull dog Pete. I love it. Havent smoked it enought to see the blistering yet, but oh what a beautiful pipe!! I got mine from smokingpipes.com and they also send you your choice of a tin of Peterson Toby. FYI
http://www.floppypipe.it/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2062 I dont know if youre interested in oriental pipes, but Dunhill has partnered with Namiki to make these stunning beauts!
I have blistered a few Grabows, but haven't had that problem with Pete's. Of course I'm really bad about not cleaning the rimcake. Protection maybe?
Holy moly that IS a lovely pipe and very expensive a girl like me could never afford a beauty like that. Thanks for the eye candy!
Definately unaffordable! But most beauts are! It definately has that dainty effect though and would probably be at home in your hands! Al pascia has another black lacquer floral inlay pipe as well, but the net nazis here at work have that blocked!
Mak...that's an 80s. 150's are straights, I do believe. I have it's red cousin. No blistering noted, but with that gloss finish, it wouldn't shock me if and when it does.
Yy is correct the 80s has a diamond shank (Dog) 999 are round....(Rhodie) 150's are diamond shanks as well
