I do the same thing every morning. I get up and start a pot of coffee. As the coffee is brewing I load my biggest pipe (a meer calabash) with a hugely flavorful burley from my local shop. After the bowl is loaded I take a hit of snuff. Pour a cup of coffee (one cream, two sugars), and cook a light breakfast. Usually two boiled eggs, toast, and some fruit. Then after that is finished I do another hit of snuff, pour myself another cup of joe and set down to smoke my first bowl of the day. Now I know some of you might say doing the same thing every morning would be boring but for me I find that having a ritual (routine...whatever you wish to call it) gets me mentally prepared for whatever the day might throw at me and working at a tattoo shop things can get mighty weird mighty quick. Anyone else have a morning routine they tend to follow every day? I would be interested to know if I am the only boring old codger here. haha
Sounds like a good routine. For me, the Monday through Friday routine is a travel mug of black coffee and a cob full of SWR wile driving to work. Weekends, same thing but no commute. Once my back to basics experiement is over it will be still be a mug of coffee and a cob, but not necessairly SWR. However, it will still be a basic Burley (or Virginia) blend. An aside... what type/style of tatts do you prefer to do?
I prefer to do Traditional American style tattoos. You know, the type that 50 years ago only sailors, criminals and hookers had? lol I can do realism and other styles but my passion is and always has been the older designs. They remind me of my uncles who were sailors and plus you can't find a better style design wise. If you have an old style rose tattoo someone across the street will know it is a rose. Big bold lines and dark shading make for a long lasting and extremely "read-able" tattoo.
I usually just have coffee and yogurt or cereal before leaving for work. My commute is short, so there isn't enough time for a pipe. Perhaps I could smoke a half-bowl in a Kaywoodie Yachtsman or something similar, but I don't crave a pipe in the am like I do snuff. I fill my snuffbox right before leaving the house and proceed to have my first pinch. Evenings are usually pipe time for me, especially after supper and the kids go to bed.
My ritual usually involves hitting snooze three or four times, then dragging my carcass through the shower, deciding whether I can make it one more day without a shave, then into some clothes and out the door about five minutes behind schedule. Yours sounds much better
My ritual is about the same, I have a bowl of cereal in there too usualy somthing chocolaty. And I agree about actualy having time to do somthing in the morning sounding fun. Unfortunately I'm usualy up at 4 and start work at about 5
Well I have it rough in the morning so once I get up like between 6 and 7 I go to the bathroom and brush my teeth and use mouth wash.Then I go into the other room and set in my recliner to fill my first pipe of the day while the television is coming on,During this time the wife is making my coffee and breakfast.Then about noon time I'm ready to start my day.I'm retired and I earned it.
My son sleeps in my bed, so he wakes me at about 6:00 am everyday. I then use the ladies room, my husband takes our son and puts him in his cozy chair and I make him a warm drink. Then I or my husband make coffee and I just have time to drink 1 cup, I get the children's clothing together, make breakfast for my children, brush their hair and get the large amount of clothing layers they need on, pack their bags for school and dress myself, then we head out the door to take them to school and daycare. We come home and then I can relax some before my Swedish studies and have a pipe with my second cup. When I travel to school I get up and leave before my family wakes, I can sometimes have a pipe on my way through the woods to my bus stop.
+ 1 Retired, start every morning with shower, coffee, light breakfast then go to my wood shop. Fire up computer check PSF and the rest of the world. 6-10 wks each year I deal with security audits for local facilities, the rest of the year is play time.
I wish I had a good morning routine that included a relaxed cup of coffee and a pipe. As it is, mine is much like Kiowapipe's. I drag myself out of bed, SSS, and trudge out the door.
I love the old school flash as well. I've got a Norman Rockwell print in my office - the tattoo artist crossing the girl's name off the sailor's arm and adding a new one. As an old tattoo-covered sailor, I can relate. The WWI/WWII vintage tattoos featured in the background of that print are really great. Good lines, bright colors and good shading, and not too much detail to get lost in. Rockwell's painting, although perhaps simplistic, portray very "human" characters interacting in a mundane world. He's got the details of the sailor and the tatto artist down pat, and the background shows an appreciation for the preferred tattoo style of the day - or at least among sailors of the day.
Sounds a lot like my weekday mornings, except I don't get to come home after I get them off to school and daycare - it's straight down the highway I go, and I'm in the office by 8:10am. Hoo yah! It's the simple and mundane details of life that sometimes make it most worth living.
Often, a couple of model or girl band friends will have insisted on staying the night, so while my man runs them home in the Bentley, I go out to my pool and swim a few lengths - to wake me up. After breakfast on the patio, I'll read the 'Financial Times' and go online to see how my stocks and shares are doing - and what jpberg is smoking today!, later I have the first pipe of the day - probably from a twenty year old tin of Balkan Sobranie, and then.....wait!....that damn cat has got under the duvet again! OT
gotta have a cigarette in the mornings lately. Sorry, pipe world. But after that one, two on the weekends..... pipe.
On the days I work...Mon-Thurs, my beautiful wife wakes me with a fresh cup of coffee...Im not kidding, 19 yrs and Ive never asked her to , but Im not about to ask her to stop either. I then fill my pipe and wake up slowly..Then its off to the bathroom for the normal sss. Then talk to her for about 30 minutes before leaving to work at 4:30 AM. On days Im off, Fri-Sunday , I still awake between 5 and 6 AM but I start the coffee and let the dogs out, and she wakes up when she wants to, and I bring coffee to her. Say what you want, but it works for us lol
Carcass outta bed, travel cup of coffee and a piece of toast if I'm lucky. At the shop by 6, jobsite by 7, and get home whenever I can. Pipes are mostly for weekends. Maybe if I get up at 4...
My routine is nothing great. I wake up, or should I say the dog wakes me up. She's like clockwork, every morning between 5-6. I start my coffee, let the dog back in, hit the bathroom. Grab my coffee, head downstairs, fill on of the pipes with an English blend, surf the web... then panick because I am all of a sudden running late, jump in the shower and run out the door. Run back in the house for my keys, and back out of the house again.

My ritual on work mornings is get up, hit of snuff and a mug of coffee with breakfast. After that, it's more coffee with the early morning pipe on the commute to work. On my days off, my routine is to sleep in, then let whatever happens happen.
