    Hi Tas,

Brilliant - delighted the first one is going to a serving soldier which is how it should be and eagerly looking forward to mine. Many thanks; brilliant work

Looks great Tas! I can't wait to try it out! Hopefully my toby gets here around the same time the pipe does... it'd be a shame to have a beautiful piece like that and not be able to enjoy it.
Don't worry though, when the toby gets here, there will be more than enough to keep this beauty full for a few months at least... caught a bit of a case of the TAD.
Back on topic, thanks again for the hard work I know you put into this, and your generosity is greatly appreciated! Hopefully I can return the favor some day.

That's sheer genius, Tas! It might make a certain Scots PSFer think of that old Reese's commercial: "Two tastes that taste great together!"

    Anything ever come of this?

Yes it can and has been done.
My biggest problem is sourcing cob bowls. The ones I made were cut off cob pipes so it did limit the size somewhat.
I did speak to MM but they wouldn't supply stock cobs.
The whole process takes awhile and would make one off bowls too expensive probably in the region of $100 US including the MM pipe.

If there were demand for quite a few it would bring the price down by around 50%

Falconeer has reported back as to the success of one of the trial versions the other went to Scworrel but we haven't heard about that one.

    Cheers Rolf.

    Hi All,

As far as I have been concerned the Cobber has been a great success. As Rolf says, because he had to mate a standard cob bowl to a wooden base, the bowl size comes out the same as a Falcon Bantam or Alco Bowl - ideal for a shorter smoke. In the looks department as I used a Falcon International straight stem with the bowl, it makes for a very sophisticated looking pipe - a deluxe going out dressed corncob in fact. When we go out for Sunday lunch it is my weapon of choice.

On the smoking front, again because the cob is mated to a wooden base, like any other Falcon bowl it took a couple of days to smoke in and get the new briar taste burned off. Once broken in however it smoked as excellently as any ohter cob pipe. I broke it in with American Burley (Prince Albert) and since have smoked it mainly with sweet virginia ( Benson and Hedges Mellow Virginia )

It's holding up to use perfectly well, remains good looking and will have a long career with me. Rolf's high grade engineering skills and persistance in getting his idea to production stage has paid off handsomely in both looks and smoking quality and is one of my favourite pipes,

    Best to all,

    Gerry

I remember this, now, and thinking to myself, "I guess I could smoke a Falcon."

It's the best look on a Falcon to me, and Gerry's approval just confirms it. I don't know the threshold you need to drive the price down, but I'll commit to one at the $50 - 60 range.

...but always remember guys I'm just an old smokin' man and I don't know everything! And of course what I did find out, I found out by doing it wrong in the first place!

IMHO Rolf got it right and he justifiably advertises himself as a "precision" gunsmith, which not all can do,

    Best as ever

If I can get my ass in to gear I might whip ten up and see what happens.
Time is lacking at the moment being summer and my bees are keeping me busy let alone work plus I have my first pipe commission too.

    I shall keep you informed.
    Cheers.
